We used to build The Liberty ships one every 3 weeks. The ships were cargo ships built in the United States during World War II. They were British in conception but adapted by the USA, cheap and quick to build, and came to symbolize U.S. wartime industrial output. Based on vessels ordered by Britain to replace ships torpedoed by German U-boats, they were purchased for the U.S. fleet and for lend-lease provision to Britain. Eighteen American shipyards built 2,751 Liberties between 1941 and 1945, easily the largest number of ships produced to a single design.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was built one every 20 minutes.. The B-17 is a four-engine heavy bomber aircraft developed for the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC). The B-17 Flying Fortress went on to enter full-scale production and was considered the first truly mass-produced large aircraft, eventually evolving through numerous design advancements, from B-17A to G.
The USS Yorktown in 1942, was destroyed at the Coral sea. Armed with this intelligence Admiral Nimitz began methodically planning Midway's defense, rushing all possible reinforcement in the way of men, planes and guns to Midway. In addition, he began gathering his naval forces - comparatively meager as they were - to meet the enemy at sea. As part of those preparations, he recalled TF16, Enterprise and Hornet (CV-8), to Pearl Harbor for a quick replenishment.
Yorktown, too, received orders to return to Hawaii; and she arrived at Pearl Harbor on 27 May. Performing a seeming miracle, yard workers there - laboring around the clock - made enough repairs to enable the ship to put to sea. Her air group - for the most part experienced but weary - was augmented by planes and crews from Saratoga (CV-3) which was then headed for Hawaiian waters after her modernization on the west coast. Ready for battle, Yorktown sailed as the core of TF17 on 30 May.
Nimitz was told he needed 3 months for repairs to the Yorktown, he gave 3 days. 3 Days later the USS Yorktown left for the Midway campaign.
2008 the Democrat relics in the congress say we can't effect gas at the pump by drilling. It is the United States inevitability that drilling is on the horizon. If Congress refuses to start drilling soon, I believe all hell will break loose with the people. I am of the opinion that if America decides to drill today, we will have oil capacity and actual refining and to the pump within a year.
That is the America I know, We put a man on the moon one year ahead of schedule. We need to drill yesterday. Or else soyonarah Senator Bill Nelson, and Senator Mel Martinez, you keep gas at 4 or worse 5 bucks a gallon and you will see what happens.
